How to reinstall Windows: step-by-step instructions. How to reinstall Windows: step-by-step instructions Detailed installation of Windows 7

In this article I want to make a small lyrical digression. I am writing this article as one of the very first in this god. I decided to start my blog by writing several articles in which I will outline various options for installing the currently beloved operating systems of the Windows family, Apple products that are beautiful in their grace, as well as the brainchild of various GNU/Linux communities.

The subject of this article will be entirely devoted to the simplest possible method of installing Windows 7 - installing from a disk that contains the operating system distribution. We will break down all the work step by step and follow them strictly. Thanks to these detailed instructions, everyone can repeat all the steps without much difficulty.

So, let's begin the installation!

Preparing for installation

This section will be useful for those who are going to reinstall the Windows 7 operating system. Owners of “clean” computers or laptops can skip this step; everyone else should read this section especially carefully so that later the joy of the new installation is not overshadowed by the grief of lost data, such like a long-term archive of a family photo album or a collection of your favorite films and music.

First of all, you need to prepare your computer or laptop (hereinafter I will just say computer) to work with the new software. To do this, you need to remember what important information is stored on your computer, then you need to copy it to a place that is protected at the time of installation. This could be a flash card, hard drive, or any portable storage device large enough to store all your data. You need to look for such data on the local drive of your computer in folders with photos, my documents and on the desktop. If you are an experienced user, then to save information you can use the free space of a second local disk, if there is one in the system.

In addition, you should have at least a separate media with a network card driver on hand, and best of all, with drivers for all devices on your computer. If you don’t have the required driver at the end of the installation, it doesn’t matter, you can download it on the Internet. But if you don’t have a network card driver, then you won’t be able to download anything from the Internet and then you’ll have to turn to your friends and comrades for help.

Where can I get the installation disk?

Let's say you have already decided which language of the Windows 7 system you are interested in: Russian, English, French, and so on. Thinking about the language of the Windows 7 operating system in advance is a good practice. It is unlikely that you need a system with English if you do not speak it. Of course, later you can install any language you want, but why immediately complicate your life.

I offer several options for finding a Windows 7 installation image.

  • We purchase Windows 7. At the same time, you receive a licensed copy of Windows, which will not cause problems with system updates, activation and does not contain unwanted software that can be preinstalled in a custom image. More on this later. In addition, you will have the opportunity to bypass the upgrade step to Windows 8 and immediately upgrade to Windows 10, completely free of charge.
  • OEM supply of disk with Windows 7. This means that the installation disk is included with your computer or laptop. The advantage is obvious - you don’t need to purchase anything additional. The downside is that usually such a delivery contains a stripped-down version of Windows, for example, Windows 7 Starter or Windows 7 Home Basic.
  • Download Windows 7 image. This method is more suitable for an experienced user who understands the basic principles of the Internet at the level of an ordinary user who can download a file. We download the installation image of Windows 7 of any edition that interests us and burn it using a special program for burning discs. You can download a similar image on any torrent tracker or forum you know. It is highly undesirable to download custom builds of Windows - builds in which users have changed some features of the operating system at their discretion, for example, thematic design or added a certain set of useful programs.

Remember, installing the system from a “clean” image will be much more predictable for you and will subsequently work more stable. And you can install all the additional beauties and unique applications yourself. In this blog I will show you how to do this, stay tuned.

The number and content of all installation steps do not depend in any way on the edition or language of the Windows 7 operating system you have chosen. Therefore, after carefully going through all the installation steps once, you can repeat them another time on another computer.

Recording programs - Alcohol, Ultra ISO, BurnAware Free, Nero Burning Rom, Clone CD; You can download it from the official website of the developers, which is easily found on the Internet. We'll talk about how to record an image further.

Burning Windows 7 distribution to disk

The downloaded Windows 7 image must be unpacked, if it is zipped, into a file with the extension iso or nrg or dmg or any other image extension.

We need a clean (new) disk DVD-R or DVD-RW already recorded, which we can clear. I will talk about recording a disc using an example BurnAware Free, I hope it won’t be too difficult for you to understand the intricacies of recording other applications.

1. Download the program distribution from the official website burnaware.com.

2. Install the application and run:

Launch BurnAware Free

3. Click "Burn ISO":

Selecting an ISO Image

Specify the location of the Windows 7 image file

5. Next, select the disk writing speed. I recommend choosing the lowest possible value for your drive. The lower you specify the recording frequency, the longer the recording will take. For example, the average recording time of an OEM image Windows 7 Home Basic on 4x it will be from 15 to 25 minutes, depending on your DVD-ROMa. Agree, this is not such a big waste of time. But the recording quality will be optimal and during installation the prepared disc will not show you any unpleasant surprises.

Selecting recording speed and disc type

6. In the same window, select the disk type, in our case DVD 4.7GB and click the "Record" button.

After the recording is completed, we receive a message about successful completion.

Windows 7 installation process

Turn on the computer and insert our Windows 7 disc into the DVD-ROM drive. Immediately after the computer starts, press and hold the magic key combination for selecting boot media. This combination may be different for different computer manufacturers. Call Boot Menu can be done with the key F12 or F10 or F9. For laptops the combination may be different. The most popular models are shown in the following table:

Your task is to select with the keys Up And Down DVD device. This is quite simple to do, you just need to find an entry in the list DVD.

If the DVD device is selected correctly, but after pressing the key Enter you will see a loading screen

Next, wait for the Windows Setup Wizard to finish downloading the files and set the initial language settings. If you have an image with Russian localization, then leave all the default parameters and proceed to the next step; if your image contains several languages, select the one you are interested in and click Further.

Installing Windows 7

To launch the installation wizard, click on the button Install:

Install Windows 7

We have come to an important step - choosing an edition of Windows 7. If your disk contains several editions of Windows, but at this stage we select the one that we need to install now. If you purchased a disk or image with the Window 7 system, then it is important to choose the edition whose serial number was given to you upon purchase.

Windows 7 Editor's Choice

You can enter the serial number in Windows 7 at the last stages of installation. But you don't have to enter the key. To enter it, you will have 30 days from the date of installation of the system, i.e. starting today. You can enter the key in the system properties (Start Menu - Computer - Properties).

Read and agree to the license agreement and click Further.

Selecting a Windows 7 installation type

Next, you need to select a hard drive partition to install Windows 7. Here it is important to select the correct installation partition, taking into account the section on Preparing for installation in this article. After all, if suddenly you have several sections, and some of them contain data that is important to you, then you should return to the very first step of this article and read it again.

If you still think that installing an operating system is an activity for computer technicians, then you are seriously mistaken.

Using this guide, you can install Windows 7, even if you are a novice PC user. So, let's get ready first.

  1. Open "My computer" and see in which partition your system is currently installed.
Remember its size and name so that you can find the volume you need during installation.
  2. Collect in advance on a flash drive or other disk all the necessary drivers for your computer or laptop. If there is no disk with drivers, they can be downloaded from the official website of the equipment manufacturer. If you don’t do this, you risk being left without the Internet after installing the new system.
  3. Which Windows 7 bit depth should I choose? Click « Control Panel -> System and Security -> System»

If your computer or laptop has more than 3 gigabytes of RAM installed, it is definitely worth installing the 64-bit version. In general, we recommend installing x86 only on weak or very outdated hardware in the 21st century, after all :). Please note that the drivers for the same device are different; in fact, these are two different systems!
  4. Download the Windows 7 installation ISO image:

    What are these images?

These are original MSDN images downloaded from the official Microsoft website. The only change is that the ability to select the system edition during installation is unlocked. No files are affected and the system is not activated.
Other versions of Windows 7 images can be downloaded.

  5. Prepare a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7. In this guide, we will install the system from a flash drive because it is faster and easier. Similar instructions on how to create it can be found.
  6. Since during installation we will format the disk with the installed system, all important files stored on it must first be copied to removable media or to another partition of the hard drive. Remember that files located on the desktop are also stored on the system disk. If you need them, be sure to move them to another place. When formatting, all previously installed programs will be deleted, but this does not mean that they also need to be copied to flash drives and disks. It's easier to reinstall programs, so only worry about – photographs, documents, music, etc.

Create a bootable USB flash drive using . Next, insert it into the USB port and change the boot priority in the motherboard BIOS so that this flash drive boots first. If difficulties arise at this step, here are detailed instructions. If you did everything correctly by changing the boot priority, then after exiting the BIOS and restarting the computer, the message “Press any key” will appear on the screen. Fulfill this requirement - press any key to start booting from the installation media.

You only need to press the key ONCE and only at this stage of installation.

After pressing any key, a message will appear indicating that Windows is downloading files.

System installation

So, let's proceed directly to installing Windows 7. Wait until their extraction is completed, after which the installer start window will appear on the screen. Congratulations, the hardest part is over!

  1. Select your language, time format and layout. Click "Further".
  2. Click on the big button "Install" to start the installation wizard.

  3. Attention!

Note: choose the version of Windows for which you have an activation key (you will enter it at the final stage of installation). If there is no key, read the instructions after installation.

  4. Read the license terms and accept them.
  5. Select the full installation (updating is not suitable for us).
  6. After starting the full installation, the partition selection screen appears. The installer window will have several sections:
First usually reserved by the system (recovery files are stored in it). It weighs 100 MB and does not need to be touched. Second is a system file - that is, Windows files are stored on it. A new system is being installed on it. Third section – file. User data is stored here and remains intact even after reinstalling Windows.
There may be other options: for example, there is no system-reserved partition or there is no volume with user files. In any case, you need the partition on which the previous system was already installed - it’s not for nothing that when preparing for installation, we advised you to look and remember its size.
If for some reason you still have one partition, the volume of which exceeds 250 GB, then it is better to immediately divide the disk into two volumes: one for Windows and programs (approximately 50-100 GB), the second for personal files. To do this, using the “Disk Setup” tool, delete the existing partition and first create the first volume (“Create” - specify the volume - “Apply”), and then the second.

The created volumes must be named “Partition 1”, “Section 2”. There should be no unallocated space left - the system simply will not see it.

So, you have at least two partitions, one of which is dedicated to operating system files. If it has not just been created, but has already been created before, then it needs to be formatted by deleting all data.
Click on the link "Disk Setup", highlight a section and press "Format". When formatting, all files on the system partition will be deleted (that is, the values in the “Full size” and “Free” columns will become the same). This is exactly what we wanted. To start a clean installation, click "Further", checking again that the partition you allocated for the system is highlighted.

  7. We wait. After selecting a partition and starting the installation, a window will appear on the screen in which you can see the process of unpacking Windows 7 files and writing them to the hard drive. While you can rest, you won’t have to do anything for 15-25 minutes.
During this installation time, the computer will reboot several times. After the installation is complete, you need to specify some system operating parameters.
  8. Enter computer name Computer name The computer name is what your computer will be called on the local network. and username. It is advisable to use Latin characters instead of Russian, this will help avoid problems with some programs in the future.
  9. You can set an administrator password if you wish, but this is not necessary. If you set a password, you will need to enter it every time you start your computer or laptop. We will leave the field empty for now; you can “password” your account later.
  10. Enter your activation key if you have one. If there is no key, uncheck "Automatically activate" and skip the step by pressing "Further".
  11. Specify Windows settings - it is better to select the recommended settings, when you get to know the new system better, configure it in your own way.
After selecting all the necessary parameters, the Windows 7 desktop will appear on the screen. You can begin your acquaintance with the system, but first reboot the computer and go into the BIOS again - here you need to change the boot priority back, putting the hard drive in first place.
  12. Turn on automatic system updates and wait until the process completes. Security updates will install most drivers. If there is no Internet, you can use a program to install drivers .

The instructions turned out to be quite impressive in volume, but now you know the main nuances when installing Windows 7 and can easily do it yourself. Carefully follow the above recommendations and the installation will definitely be successful.

This distribution has been tested by me personally. It is absolutely stable and the most important thing is that it is not an assembly, but an absolutely clean copy. If your computer won't boot, reinstalling the operating system will most likely help you.
Naturally, you will need to activate Windows. There are many different activators, but I think Windows Loader is one of the best.

It is free and allows you to receive official updates from Microsoft. First, you need to download UltraISO to write the original Windows 7 maximum image to a flash drive. You can download everything you need from our website via torrent.

To install Windows 7 Ultimate you will need:

1.Download the original, clean image from our website
2. — this software will allow you to write an image from window to a flash drive or a good old disk.
3. DriverPack Solution - allows you to quickly and free download all the necessary drivers.
4. Windows Loader - an activator that will allow you to use the OS for free with full functionality.
4.Windows 7 Download Tool - .
5. The actual flash drive or disk itself, with the required amount of available space.

What is the difference between the x64 and x86(x32) versions?

Everything is very simple. If your PC/laptop has more than 4 gigabytes of RAM, feel free to install x64, if less, then x86.
You can find out the number of OPs like this:
1. Go to “My Computer”
2. Right-click on any free space.
3. Click Properties

"(my laptop data)

How to install Microsoft Windows:

  1. First you need to make a bootable USB flash drive. About it, .
  2. Turn on the computer/laptop in launch mode from a flash drive. .
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  4. Activate Windows using Windows Loader.
  5. Download all the necessary drivers and programs using DriverPack Solution or Snappy Driver Installer. There should be no problems during installation.
    Important!!!
You must understand that when changing the operating system (window), you need to format drive C. Therefore, make sure in advance that there are no necessary files left on it (photos, videos, programs). Also make sure that your computer has at least 2 gigabytes of RAM, they are needed for stable operation of the system. How to do this is indicated above in this article.

There are several options for installing this operating system, and all of them differ only in minor deviations from the installation process itself. Windows 7 can be installed, for example:

1 . To a new computer;
2 . On top of Windows XP;
3 . To have two systems: XP and “seven”;
4 . So that there are two “sevens”;
5 . Reinstall Windows 7.

During the installation process, you will understand that there is nothing complicated here. It’s scary the first time, but then everything is done with your eyes closed. We will focus on the most common option, this is when your operating system “crashes” or is damaged by viruses and no longer shows any signs of life.
So, let's get started.

1. Go to “BIOS”.

Insert the distribution disk Windows 7 into the DVD drive and send the computer to reboot. Immediately after the reboot, the motherboard welcome window will appear for 2–3 seconds, prompting you to press the “ DEL", and in laptops " F2».

Once the welcome window opens, press the "" button on your keyboard several times. DEL" or " F2" to get to " BIOS" If you do not have time in this short period of time, then the reboot procedure will have to be repeated again, since the computer will begin to boot from the hard drive.

So, we did everything right and got to " BIOS" to the section " Main».

Using the tips, and in different models of motherboards they can be slightly modified, move to the section “ Boot" (loading).
In my case, movement is done using the arrow buttons " up down" or " left-right" located on the keyboard, and for most laptops the navigation buttons will be F5 And F6.

While in the " Boot"go to the menu item" Boot Device Priority» by pressing the « button Enter».

A boot menu window opened in front of us, where it is indicated that the computer should boot from floppy disk, and if there is none, then the next device is HDD. Well, the last one on this list is CDROM.

Here, we choose to boot the computer from the DVD drive. Therefore, press the button " Enter"and another window opens in front of us, in which we need to select our drive.
Arrow keys " up down"go down to the line " CDROM:3S-Optiarc DVD RW AD-5260" and click " Enter" The name of your DVD drive will be different.
In the case of a laptop, the navigation buttons will be F5 And F6.

As you can see, the DVD drive is the first on the computer's boot list.

2. Install Windows 7 on your hard drive.

After the reboot, a window will appear for a short time, where in the upper left corner there will be a request line to start the installation from the DVD drive. Press any key. If the key is not pressed, the computer will start booting from the hard drive.

The Windows 7 setup program will launch, determine the minimum hardware required for installation, and copy the necessary installation files to your hard drive.

All. We have done the most difficult part, and now all that remains is to follow the instructions of the installation program.
In this window, select the installation language.

Here we select the language of the operating system and click “ Further».

Press the button " Install» to start Windows installation.

In the next window you will need to select the version of Windows 7 that was previously installed on your computer. It is important to know here: a 32 or 64-bit operating system was installed on the computer, otherwise there will be problems with the operation of the hardware if it is not designed to work with a 64-bit system.
As a rule, if you have more than 3 GB of RAM, you can safely install the 64-bit version of the system. Once you have decided, click “ Further».

If you are installing the system on a laptop, then the system data can be taken from the sticker glued to the bottom of the laptop.

We agree to the License Agreement and click “ Further».

Select the full installation.

After some time, the installation program will automatically detect the partition in which it will offer to install the operating system. But you can also specify which partition you want to install Windows in. In our case, we leave everything by default and select “ Disk setup».

In this window we select formatting section. The program will immediately warn you that you will lose all unsaved data in this section. And since we have no choice - Windows still won’t load, we definitely click “ Further».

By formatting a hard drive partition, we plow it, as it were, creating favorable “soil” for files and folders of the new operating system.
Now all you have to do is wait until Windows is installed on your computer.

Once the installation of files is complete, the computer will reboot.

After the next reboot and in the future, while the system is being installed, you will see a window with a request to start the installation.

Don't click anything, because the necessary files are already downloaded to your hard drive, and there is no need to download them again from the installation disk.

3. Completing the installation of WINDOWS 7.

Windows now prompts you to enter some more information to complete the installation. In the window that opens, enter the computer user name and click “ Further" You can enter your name.

This window prompts you to enter a password for your account. You may or may not enter it. I usually don't enter a password. Click " Further».

The next window asks you to enter your product key. Click " Further».
You don’t have to enter it, but use this operating system for 30 days. But after this period, you will need to activate Windows by entering the key.

We check the set date, time and time zone.

We are waiting for the settings to be applied.

All. Now you can be congratulated on self-installation Windows 7 operating system.

4. Add some shine.

Let's add a couple more necessary touches.
As you noticed, the screen resolution is a little high, and the elements " Desktop"look large.
Right-click on “ Desktop" and in the context menu that appears, select " Screen resolution».

As you can see, the default screen resolution is 800x600 pixels. It changes with a slider located in the window that opens with permission options. Select the one you need and click “ Apply", And " OK».

And the second thing that must be done is to restart the computer and enter “ BIOS" to change the download option.

We also go to the section “ Boot" and from the menu item " Boot Device Priority» by pressing the « button Enter"We get to the boot menu. Here we select so that the computer boots by default with hard drive.

If you have a desktop PC, then it will be enough to install the latest drivers for the webcam, if you have a camera.

For laptop owners, you will have to install a little more drivers: for a video card, webcam, touchpad, Wi-Fi, and possibly for some other device. They can all be downloaded from the laptop manufacturer’s website.

Now you can use the computer.

And if you have any questions about installing Windows 7, be sure to watch this video.

There are many reliable computer hardware and applications available. But, nevertheless, sometimes various errors arise, leading to the impossibility of further operation of the system. In this case, it becomes necessary to install Windows 7 on the PC yourself.

What do you need to know before installation?

Before you begin installing Windows 7, you need to know the following:

You should also have a good understanding of the Bios settings before proceeding with the installation. Since not very experienced users can render their computer inoperative by selecting the wrong parameters.

Video: Windows 7 Guide

Bios Settings for Windows Installation

One of the most problematic operations for most users who decide to independently install the Windows 7 operating system from a disk is setting up Bios. In order to install the OS yourself, you need to set the CD/DVD drive first in the “boot order” section.

To do this, you will first need to get into Bios. Regular, stationary personal computers allow you to do this by pressing the Delete key at the initial boot stage. For many laptops, this key is F2 or F12.

Today there are many different versions of Bios, and each setting has its own specifics.

The most common Bios are from the following manufacturers:

  • Phoenix.

To install a CD/DVD drive in AMI as the primary boot device, you need to go to the section called Boot (you can do this using the -> and<-). В нем будет иметься пункт под названием «1st boot device» – следует выбрать CD/DVD.

Bios from Phoenix are more confusing. Once in it, you can see two columns. In the first one you should find an item called “Advanced Bios Features”. Having entered it, you can see another list in the form of a column - the “First Boot Device” item allows you to install the primary boot device.

There are also other versions of Bios from the same manufacturers, their settings are similar. The names of the items are also the same, only the formatting of the menus and lists is different.

Start installation

If the Bios setup is done correctly, then you can begin installing Windows 7. Insert the CD with the distribution into the CD/DVD drive and restart your computer.

Most likely, the PC will provide the last opportunity to avoid installing a new OS. After the reboot, the following message will appear on the screen: “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD.”

By pressing any key on the keyboard, the user agrees to begin installing Windows. After this, a window will appear with a bar filling to the right, above which there will be the inscription “Windows is loading files” - Windows is loading files.

When this step is completed, the Windows installation environment will give you the opportunity to select the required language.

Language

After extracting all the required files into the memory of the personal computer, the user will see the following window for selecting language parameters.

It contains the following items:

  • installed language;
  • time and currency format;
  • keyboard layout (input method).

After selecting all the necessary parameters, you can safely click the next button and continue with the installation.

License

When the selection of language parameters is completed, you need to read the license and check the box at the bottom of the page - this confirms the user’s agreement with all its clauses.

If the user does not agree to this license agreement, installation is not possible.

type of instalation

After reading the section of the license agreement, you can proceed directly to configuring the installation parameters. You must select the installation type to be used.

The user is offered two options to choose from:

  • full installation;
  • update.

A full installation involves a new installation of the operating system. If you select this item, all previously installed programs and OS will not be saved. Also, when choosing a full installation, you have the opportunity to reorganize the disks and perform a formatted installation.

To install a new OS, you must select the item called “Full installation”.

Selecting a partition and formatting it

After “Full installation” has been selected, you can proceed to selecting the partition where it will be installed. The partition can also be formatted using system tools.

This should be done by clicking on “Disk Settings”. In the window that opens, you can not only format the disk before installation, but also split it into smaller partitions.

It is advisable to partition a large disk if its size is at least 250 GB. The optimal option would be the following proportions: 50 GB of disk space are allocated to the system partition (where the OS will be installed), the remaining 200 GB are allocated for other purposes - installing third-party programs, storing files.

After formatting and dividing into the required number of partitions is completed, click next.

Installation progress

If all previous operations were completed successfully, the system will automatically start the installation after clicking the “Next” button.

The whole process consists of several stages, all of which are displayed on the screen:

  1. copying files;
  2. unpacking;
  3. installation of components;
  4. installing updates;
  5. installation complete.

Usually the process takes no more than 10-15 minutes.

Configuring System Settings

When the installation process is completed, the operating system will prompt you to make initial settings.

They include:

To work in Windows 7, you will need a user account; it is created during installation by entering the user name and password.

Setting up a security policy is very important. When choosing any item, you must be guided, first of all, by your own needs.

If the PC is used for constant surfing the Internet, you should select the recommended settings (first point). In cases where the Internet and third-party software are used to a minimum, you can choose item number two - install only the most important updates.

Also, immediately after installing the OS, you can select the time zone, as well as set the system clock. The interface that allows you to do this is extremely simple and clear.

Another section that must be configured concerns the network environment of a personal computer. The choice of one of them should be made taking into account the type of network to which the PC is connected.

After all steps of installing the operating system have been completed, you should restart the computer again.

When the new OS is successfully launched, you can safely get to work - install all the necessary software, configure the hardware.

It is only important to take into account some nuances when installing the system. You should be especially careful when formatting your hard drive, as this operation may make some areas unusable by the OS.

Installing the OS from a CD is a simple operation (unlike installing from a USB drive or from another system). Therefore, it is practiced by most users.

It is also much more convenient to purchase licensed versions on discs in a store - this way you can avoid fakes and counterfeit products.
