Dodge X5 smartphone. DOOGEE X5 Max Review: Top Ten Percent. Brief technical specifications

Which will be done in this article, seemed to the wide Internet audience to be a real bomb that was supposed to shake up the mobile device market. In general, the manufacturing company for the most part focuses specifically on the budget segment. This is, in principle, noticeable. However, this is not what we are talking about now.

Background

Doogee smartphone has been replenished the lineup of the company's devices in 2015. Although the company's product line consisted of several interesting models even before that time. For example, such smartphones as Doogee Nova and Doogee Y100 Pro distinguished themselves “in battle.” Note that all these devices are in approximately the same price segment; they cost around $100. Well, of course, there was some scattering. But it amounts to one or two dozen conventional units. This is the maximum.

Introduction

Perhaps it's time to open the box and see what's inside it. Before us appears a beautiful device that has impressive functionality. The Doogee X5 phone, reviews of which will be given at the end of the article, amazes with its predisposition to quite demanding toys, as well as its high performance. But first things first.

Brief technical specifications

How can the Doogee X5, the review of which is presented in the article, surprise us? Let's first present its main parameters.

So, the hardware consists of a processor from the manufacturer Mediatek. This is model MT6580. For those who do not understand the names of devices, we tell you: this processor consists of four cores and operates at a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz.

The user was provided with 1 gigabyte random access memory. It is clear that part of it is “eaten up” by software applications and related software. However, this is enough even for demanding games. 8 GB chips are installed in the phone as long-term memory. In addition, the phone owner can always separately purchase MicroSD storage devices.

The display has a diagonal of 5 inches and displays images in HD quality. It is made using IPS technology. This means, in turn, that the user will be able to read text from the screen for a long time and watch movies on it without much harm to their eyes.

But what will not please the owner of the Doogee X5, the review of which is given in the article, is the cameras. The main one has a resolution of 5 megapixels, and the additional one (front) has only 2 megapixels. This, of course, is not enough.

As software The Android operating system version 5.1 is installed. Which, by the way, is not bad.

There is a complete set of communication modules. This includes Bluetooth version 4.0, Wi-Fi, and GPS.

The battery life of the Doogee X5, which we are reviewing, has become one of the main advantages of the phone. The battery has a capacity of 2400 mAh, which is very, very good.

Two SIM cards are supported. They must be installed in the appropriate MicroSIM standard slots.

Perhaps this is where the listing of the main characteristics of the phone will end, and we will immediately move on to considering the appearance of the device.

Design

Of course, taking into account the price of the device (which is about $50), there is no need to talk about any sophistication. The case is made of fairly cheap plastic. The appearance of the device is not just businesslike or serious (as they say, workhorse): he is harsh. A real secret agent device. The shape of the device is rectangular, angular.

Dimensions and bonuses

In all three planes, the dimensions of the phone are 142 x 72 x 9 millimeters. At the same time, together with the battery, the device weighs 165 grams.

From the very beginning, a protective film will be glued to the device. This is the kind of incentive that the company’s engineers (possibly marketers) came up with.

Front Panel

On the front you can see proximity and light sensors. They are located directly above the display. There is also a hearing speaker and an additional camera. Below you can find touch controls - buttons that are typical for devices running the Android operating system. They are, of course, located under the screen. Unfortunately, there is no backlight for the touch keys. And there is no event indicator.

Bottom end

The speaking microphone is located here. Its location can be called convenient. This part of the device also houses the main sound speaker. It provides loud phone sound, so you won't miss a call.

Top end

If we look here, we will find two connectors at once. The first, 3.5 millimeter standard, is designed for connecting a wired stereo headset to the device. The second one is nothing more than a MicroUSB connector.

Right side

It has volume controls and a power connector. It is worth noting that the buttons are pressed clearly, without sagging. That is why there should be no complaints about the phone in the corresponding plan.

Back panel

The back cover of the device is also made of matte plastic. But you should not think that stains will not appear on it. Of course, they will appear there during the operation of the phone. The device most likely looks better in white. There such shortcomings will not be so obvious. The black version of the device, as noted in reviews, turns out to be very easily soiled. However, experts suggest that a large number of covers for the device will soon appear in the smartphone markets as it has become very popular.

There are no gaps in the device, nothing creaks. The back cover holds tightly, just like that, by itself, it will not fall off the phone. In general, there are no complaints in this regard.

Screen

The display, as mentioned at the beginning of the article, is made using IPS technology, which reduces eye strain. The screen diagonal is 5 inches, and the picture is displayed in HD quality. If you put all these three facts together, then you can say without exaggeration that for that kind of money this is the most real gift. Individual pixels are very, very faintly visible.

There is a small layer of air gap. The screen has a large reserve of brightness and good viewing angles.

While renowned manufacturers in the budget segment are promoting models with really outdated hardware, companies from the Middle Kingdom can offer devices at a higher level. That is, a potential buyer may well purchase a smartphone with fairly good functionality and performance for performing a wide range of mobile tasks. The hero of our today's review falls into this category - DOOGEEX5 MAXPro, which was kindly provided for testing by our partner, the online store pcshop.ua.

The device is designed for the mass consumer and, at a relatively low price, combines a 5-inch HD IPS display, a 4-core MediaTek MT6737 processor, a 5 MP main camera with software interpolation up to 8 MP and a number of other features, which we will consider in detail below. First, let's take a closer look at its technical characteristics.

Delivery and configuration

DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro comes in a relatively small black cardboard box, which is characterized by a discreet appearance and good information content.

Inside is the minimum required kit to get started with a smartphone: charger, USB cable and user documentation.

Appearance, arrangement of elements

We are already accustomed to the fact that budget smartphones do not excite our imagination with their original design or construction materials. All this also applies to DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro - a “chubby brick”, embellished with a thin silver edging, which is designed to visually slightly hide its considerable thickness. Looks quite nice. The body is collapsible, plastic, internally reinforced with an aluminum chassis. The front is tempered glass. The removable back cover is matte, non-slip and feels like a soft touch, although it is not one. There are two color options available on the market - black and white.

In general, the dimensions (143 x 73.2 mm) are within its diagonal, and the increased thickness and weight (10.8 mm and 195 g) are caused by a fairly capacious battery. Nevertheless, it is quite comfortable to work with the device even with one hand, including thanks to the good location of the controls.

The front panel is made in a laconic style - without inscriptions or logos. There are a number of standard elements here: a speaker, a proximity and light sensor, a front camera, a standard set of touch buttons (unfortunately, without backlight) and a microphone. The frames around the display are large: 5.75 mm on the sides, 15 mm on the top, 17 mm on the bottom. The edging rises slightly above the glass.

Despite the two grilles on the lower side, there is only one speaker, and it is located on the right. At the top are micro-USB and 3.5mm audio ports. The left side is empty, and on the right you can see the volume rocker and the power key. The buttons fit neatly under the thumb right hand or left index. Their pressing is quite tight, and the operation is quiet.

At the back of DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro there is a main camera module with flash, a fingerprint scanner and the manufacturer’s logo.

Yes, yes, you didn’t think so, a model costing less than $100 received a fingerprint sensor - a rare occurrence even for much more expensive solutions. And I must say that it works perfectly - quickly and accurately. Moreover, its functionality is not limited to simply unlocking the smartphone. With it, you can scroll through photos in the gallery, pause music and videos, and even take pictures. Additionally, you can protect access to any application with your fingerprint.

A special protrusion is provided for removing the back cover. After its dismantling, access to a replaceable battery, slots for two SIM cards in Micro-SIM and Nano-SIM formats, as well as for a microSD memory card is opened.

The build quality of the DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro is good. Perhaps the only criticism concerns the slightly rotated bezel of the fingerprint scanner. The rigidity of the case is excellent: it is not susceptible to external influences, and there are no extraneous sounds.

Display

DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro uses a 5-inch IPS touch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and a pixel density of 293 PPI. The matrix is covered protective glass(the brand of which the manufacturer does not disclose). There is an air gap between them, which slightly impairs readability in the sun, but makes repairs cheaper: if damaged, only the glass can be replaced, and not the entire display unit. For additional protection factory film with an oleophobic layer is pasted.

In general, subjective impressions of the display are quite positive: pleasant color rendering, albeit with a noticeable deviation towards cooler shades, as well as good contrast. The resolution is sufficient to produce detailed images, including smooth fonts. Viewing angles are very wide - without characteristic distortions when viewed diagonally. The brightness can be adjusted manually, or you can use automatic control. The adjustment range is sufficient for comfortable work on a sunny day or in complete darkness. The automation works averagely - in the sun it may not raise the brightness to maximum.

Multi-touch technology processes only two simultaneous touches. In most cases it works well, but there are some delays, which is especially noticeable in games.

Present ample opportunities gesture controls, including “Smart Somatosensory” (scrolling through photos, tracks, desktops, etc. by simply swiping over the proximity sensor), “Gesture Unlock” (unlock/lock with a double tap, call the camera by swiping your finger down, etc.) and “System Gesture” (turn off the incoming call signal by rotating the screen down, the ability to answer a call simply by shaking the smartphone and automatic shutdown speakerphone when held to your ear).

Audio subsystem

This model is equipped with one multimedia speaker. It provides fairly loud sound and good frequency range, which lacks detail. To perform basic functions (games, video and speakerphone), its capabilities are more than enough.

The package does not include a headset, so the sound in the headphones was checked using gaming (impedance 60 Ohms) and in-ear Vivanco HS 200 WT (impedance 16 Ohms). In both cases, the sound is quite standard, without any frills, and the volume reserve is minimal.

Additionally, there is a radio module for recording and listening to FM radio stations with connected headphones.

Camera

DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro is equipped with two cameras: the main one (5-megapixel module with software interpolation up to 8 megapixels, f/2.8 aperture and autofocus) and the front one (5-megapixel module with software interpolation up to 8 megapixels, f/2.8 aperture and fixed focus). The first one can shoot video in 720p resolution, and the second one can shoot video in 480p resolution. The quality of the resulting photos and videos is expectedly mediocre. However, the camera capabilities are enough for simple tasks: to photograph something close and make a video call in good lighting conditions, but you should not count on high detail.

The main camera settings menu is quite simple and familiar to Android OS users. There are a considerable number of settings and modes.

User interface

The DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro smartphone runs on the still current Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS, which is presented in a slightly modified form. As a result, we have redrawn icons, a vertically scrolling application menu, and a modified quick settings curtain.

There are not many pre-installed programs (“Flashlight”, “Bagan Keyboard”, “Documents To Go” and “DG Xender”), but they all have a set useful functions, which will be useful when everyday use. We’ll highlight “Parallel Space” separately, which allows you to log into one application under different accounts (maximum two profiles per application).

The main settings menu received a black background, while all other submenus remained white, which, given such contrast, is very hard on the eyes. Access to almost all parameters is open: communication capabilities, appearance, screen settings, sound effects, gesture control, etc. By the way, some items did not receive translation. An interesting feature to note is the “Download in Turbo mode” function, the essence of which is to simultaneously use the mobile Internet and Wi-Fi to speed up file downloading.

Overall, the system works well - quickly and smoothly, without any major complaints.

Productivity and communication capabilities

DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro is built on the MediaTek MT6737 SoC processor. It combines four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 1.25 GHz. The graphics are handled by an ARM Mali-T720 MP2 with a clock frequency of 650 MHz and support for OpenGL ES 3.1, OpenVG 1.1 and DirectX 11. The amount of RAM is 2 GB, and the permanent memory is 16 GB. This space can be expanded using microSD memory cards. This platform supports OTG mode, so you can connect an external USB drive and other peripherals.

First, it should be noted that the MediaTek MT6737 processor is an overclocked version of the MediaTek MT6735, so its performance is slightly higher. The smartphone copes well not only with simple everyday tasks (calls, robot with documents, surfing the Internet, listening to audio, watching videos), but also allows you to run modern games at minimum or medium graphics settings. For example, Asphalt 8: Airborne and WoT Blitz demonstrate a comfortable speed of displaying the virtual world on minimum settings, but in Vainglory you can use medium ones. CSR Racing 2 doesn't slow down, but it looks as simple as possible. Dungeon Hunter 5 slows down in places. During prolonged use, the case becomes only slightly warm.

DOOGEE X5 MAX Pro supports modern mobile networks 2G GSM, 3G UMTS and 4G LTE Cat.4. Support for two SIM cards is implemented on the basis of one radio module. During testing, there were no complaints about its performance. The speaker and microphone perform well. The vibration alert is average in strength.

Communication modules include Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.

The operation of the wireless network modules is quite standard: everything connects quickly and holds the connection well.

The navigation module is characterized by support satellite system GPS (A-GPS). Cold start takes about 10 seconds.

Autonomous operation

The undoubted advantage of the tested model can be considered a replaceable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh. Under moderate load with 50% display brightness (calls, SMS, music, a little internet), it will easily last for two days of battery life. Using only basic functions, the charge can be extended for three days.

As a result of watching HD video (MPEG-4 / AVC, MKV container, 4 Mbit/s stream), the device was discharged in 12 hours 24 minutes. A gaming simulation using Asphalt 8: Airborne drained its battery in 5 hours and 8 minutes.

The estimated battery life according to PCMark was 9 hours 23 minutes, while GFXBench gave a result of 456 minutes. In all cases (except for the gaming one), the display brightness was 50%, and the Wi-Fi and GPS modules were activated.

The battery charging time from the supplied unit (5 V, 1 A) is about 4.5 hours. Yes, for a long time, well, at least you won’t have to do this every day.

Results

DOOGEEX5 MAXPro - one of the best, if not best smartphone, presented on the domestic market in the category up to $85 (2199 UAH). At the end we get something nice mobile device with a fingerprint scanner, a high-quality 5-inch HD IPS display, support for two SIM cards, 4G LTE mobile networks and sufficient performance to comfortably perform simple everyday tasks (calls, working with documents, surfing the Internet, listening to audio, watching video) and to run modern games at low, and in some cases, at medium graphics settings. It’s also worth mentioning the still current version of Android OS 6.0.1 Marshmallow with good functionality straight out of the package. But, perhaps, the “cherry on the cake” can be considered a 4000 mAh battery, which allows you to forget about charging for 2-3 days with moderate use of the device.

It is worth understanding that everyone budget models There are some compromises, fortunately in our case we can quite live with them. These include mediocre camera modules, the screen supports only two simultaneous presses and a rather long charging time.

DESIGN

There is no need to talk about any design for fifty bucks - the plastic is cheap, the appearance is harsh. We have a rectangular angular plastic tile. The case length was 142 mm, width 72 mm, thickness of the smartphone 9 mm. The weight of the device including the battery is 165 g.

The Smart comes with a protective film already applied to the screen. Above the display are light and proximity sensors, a hearing speaker and front-camera. There are 3 touch buttons under the screen that are not backlit. There is no event indicator on the phone.

The conversation microphone and main speaker are located on bottom end. The audio jack and microUSB connector are on the top.

The power and volume control buttons are located on the right side. They press clearly and there are no complaints about them.

The cover of the Doogee X5 is made of matte plastic, but this does not save us from the appearance of numerous stains on it. Perhaps this would be better in the white version, but the black version is very easily soiled. But because The model is already very popular, there probably won’t be any problems with bumpers and cases for this phone.

The lid itself fits tightly and confidently on the body. The build quality is quite normal.

DISPLAY

A 5-inch IPS display with HD resolution at this price is just a gift. Yes, it has an air gap, but only the most inveterate optimists could expect an OGS screen here. Overall, for a smartphone at this price, the display here is very decent. Pixelation is not visible, the brightness margin is decent, and viewing angles are good. Images look sharp and the color reproduction is pleasing to the eye.

Yes, the touch can recognize no more than 2 simultaneous touches. But this is far from the worst dual touch I've ever seen. Scaling is carried out correctly, including when placing fingers in the same vertical plane. There were no problems with game controls.

HARDWARE AND PERFORMANCE

The 4-core 32-bit processor MTK6580 appeared not so long ago and the Doogee X5 was one of the first devices with it on board. Perc operates at frequencies up to 1.3 GHz and is typical budget solution. If we compare it with the outgoing MTK6582, then the 6580 seemed to me more energy efficient and slightly more productive in games. The graphics chip used is MALI 400MP.

The amount of RAM was 1 GB. User memory is 8 GB, of which 4.5 GB is available to us. Of course, there is a slot for memory cards.

In the AnTuTu test, the Doogee X5 scores just over 20,000 points, which is the norm for modern budget smartphones. This hardware allows you to comfortably play not too demanding games. In more advanced games with better graphics, the FPS level may drop, but nevertheless, the smart device allows you to play such hits as WOT BLITZ, Modern Combat 5, Real Racing 3, etc. at low graphics settings.

There are no problems with playing FullHD video if the bitrate of the video files is not sky-high. In general, it’s quite working hardware, the performance of which will be sufficient for all basic tasks.

As for various sensors, the Sensor Box program tells us that the Doogee X5 has an accelerometer, light, orientation, proximity, sound, gyroscope and magnetic sensor on board.

OS AND INTERFACE

The undoubted advantage of Doogee X5 is the presence of the latest and most optimized version of Android 5.1 Lollipop. The stock interface has nice translucent icons, a small set of pre-installed themes and a variety of widgets. There is nothing special about this interface and it is quite convenient to work with it. On the new smartphone, nothing slows down or glitches.

Over-the-air software updates are provided and these updates actually come out. In my case, the smart phone arrived with firmware version V09 dated August 28. When connected to the Internet, the device notified me that it wanted to download a software update in the form of version V10, dated August 31 of this year. I didn’t refuse him, I agreed, after which the phone was updated correctly.

The smart device cannot boast of any unique functions. I will note the presence of a guest mode, which allows you to hide contacts, photos and other personal information from prying eyes. It is possible to quickly access various phone functions. For example, we draw the letter “W” on the locked screen and immediately get to the window with SMS messages or do double tap and turn on the screen. However, this functionality can now be found in most smartphones. And using this quick access is not entirely convenient, because in your pocket the phone begins to live its own life.

There is also an option in the settings where you can enable gesture control.

The level of Russification of the interface is quite sufficient; only minor functions remain untranslated, such as the aforementioned gesture control or quick access functionality. Everything basic is in Russian.

In the stock firmware, only the most necessary programs, plus two third-party keyboards, the Xender application for file sharing and the Documents To Go program for working with documents. Play Store also preinstalled.

NAVIGATION, SOUND AND COMMUNICATION

GPS was a pleasant surprise. When the Doogee X5 first started navigation, it found a dozen satellites in less than 1 minute. There is no GLONASS support here. But the device catches GPS satellites with a bang, so it will definitely cope with work as a navigator.

Reception quality WiFi signal no worse than in more expensive smartphones. Anywhere in a 3-room apartment, the phone can pick up the network normally.

I've come across reviews that the earpiece is not of very high quality. I can’t confirm this - in my case everything is fine - and I hear well, and I can be heard perfectly. But if there is still wheezing in the speakers, they say that sometimes turning off the BesLoundness mode in the sound settings helps.

The multimedia speaker produces very good sound. Of course, the inscription under the cover “3D Stereo Sound” is complete nonsense, but nevertheless, the sound of the main speaker is not only loud, but also relatively clear even at high level volume. Of course, you won’t get bass from it, but for a budget employee the speaker is still not bad.

4G networks are not supported, only 2G and 3G. Both slots are designed for micro SIM cards glasses and, traditionally, they are placed above the battery.

CAMERAS

In this regard, the smartphone stars from the sky are not enough. The settings are all standard, there is detection of faces and smiles, preinstalled programs shooting and minimal manual settings. The 5-megapixel main camera software stretches photos to 8 megapixels, but their quality, of course, does not improve from this. The detailing is weak, and more or less watchable pictures can only be taken in good lighting. So in terms of the main camera, everything is simple - no matter how much money you paid for the phone, you received such a camera.

But I was pleased with the bright LED backlight. With its help, you can photograph an object in the dark at close range, and it works great as a flashlight.

The front camera is 2 megapixel with interpolation up to 5 megapixels. And I'll tell you, I expected less from her. Of course, its main purpose in this device is video communication. But with good lighting, you can even try to take some selfies for Odnoklassniki or Vkontakte with its help. So the front camera is even more or less here.

Doogee X5 can shoot video in FullHD resolution. However, the video quality is still frankly low-cost even despite the high resolution. The output is 3GP files with stereo sound and a frequency of 30 fps.

AUTONOMY

The tester showed that during charging from 0% to 100%, the battery absorbed approximately 2050 mA. In short, you can count on 2000 honest mAh here. And in principle this is not bad.

In real-life operating conditions, a smartphone should last for a whole day, unless, of course, you stare at the screen for hours on end. For example, if we compare the autonomy with its budget brother Doogee Nova Y100X, then the Doogee X5 has much better battery life. Still, it is noticeable that this new budget processor uses battery power much more efficiently than the old MT6582. Yes, and Android 5.1 does its job. In general, the autonomy here is normal for a budget employee and the charge level does not melt before your eyes, as happened in some models from this manufacturer.

Under heavy loads of the AnTuTu Battery Test application, 80% of the charge was consumed in 2 hours 10 minutes. The program awarded the smartphone almost 3,500 points. I also note that the battery discharges evenly, which allows us to roughly predict the time remaining until the battery is completely discharged.

VERDICT

Of course, one could find fault with this phone, one could look for shortcomings in it and scold it for some shortcomings. It would be possible... if it didn't cost 50 and a penny of dollars. But for this money, I assure you that you won’t find anything better on sale now. Doogee X5 earns back every ruble paid for it, every penny. Therefore, my verdict will be unequivocal - this is an excellent budget phone and at this price it simply has no competitors. And don’t forget that it has an older brother, the Doogee X5 Pro, which is a copy of the X5, but has a 64-bit processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of user memory, support for 4G networks and a price tag of around 80 bucks. Links to where to buy both of these models are provided below.

UNPACKING VIDEO:

FULL REVIEW VIDEO:

VIDEO GAME TEST IN WOT BLITZ GAME:

Everyone, when choosing a smartphone (and making any other purchase), wants to purchase the best, top-end model. But this is not always possible for the most prosaic reasons - the prices for such gadgets in the current situation are simply astronomical. So you have to make a compromise, choosing the most suitable option among devices in the mid-range, budget and ultra-budget segments. Just a representative of the latter came to us for review.

What is this?

DOOGEE X5 Max is a purebred chinese smartphone. With a price in our stores of around 2000 hryvnia (approximately ten percent of the average cost of a flagship phone), it is equipped seriously enough to compete on an equal footing with mid-level models from AAA manufacturers (or even emerge victorious from such a comparison). There is a 4000 mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner, Android 6.0, support for two SIM cards, a gigabyte of RAM and many other goodies.

What is in the box?

While most manufacturers reduce size and simplify packaging under the banner of caring for the environment, DOOGEE simply saves on it. Agree, it’s better to get a less pretentious box than a smartphone with Bluetooth 3.0 instead of 4.0. The smartphone's equipment is minimal, although not exactly budget-friendly. At least DOOGEE did not skimp on the charger - judging by the labeling, it is designed for a current of one ampere. This is especially true when you consider the large capacity of the battery used in the gadget.

What does DOOGEE X5 Max look like?

What else they saved on when creating the DOOGEE X5 Max smartphone was the design and materials. The appearance of the device, frankly speaking, is not outstanding - an unpretentious variation on the theme of the now popular “black rectangle with a silver border” solution. The designers tried to reduce the noticeable fullness of the case by making this border narrower, but the weight of under 200 grams is not able to hide such tricks. The edging, of course, is not metal, but made of painted plastic. There are no retractable hatches on the side ends. Slots for SIM cards and memory cards are hidden behind a removable back cover.

The front panel is completely covered with glass and factory adhesive film. The latter has moderate oleophobicity and a noticeable “mirror” effect when viewed from the side. You can consider it an additional measure to protect your private data from individuals who like to look at the screens of other people's smartphones.

The DOOGEE X5 Max uses matte plastic for the back panel. It should look good in your hand. But if your palms are dry, the phone becomes slippery, like a wet bar of soap. Even with a cursory examination of the device’s appearance, it is impossible not to notice that in addition to the usual camera and flash, on the rear panel there is also one of the smartphone’s attractions - a fingerprint scanner (still a rare option for devices in this price segment).

Having squeezed the DOOGEE X5 Max smartphone in your hands, you begin to suspect that the edging is still metal - it is very resistant to external influences. The answer lies within. Looking into the battery compartment, you notice the aluminum frame hidden inside. It is this that provides the body with solidity and additional stability.

How is his screen?

The five-inch screen uses an IPS panel with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. There is an air gap between the matrix and the protective glass, which slightly impairs the readability of the screen in the sun. The backlight level has a more noticeable effect on readability. In this smartphone, at maximum power it is not very high, so under bright light, the colors on it fade noticeably. But the minimum brightness level is very comfortable when using the device at night. But the screen still has one noticeable drawback. Not even at the screen itself, but at the touchpad - it only detects two touches. In most programs this is not so critical, but in games there may simply not be enough “controls”.

Does DOOGEE X5 Max have enough performance?

The MediaTek MT6580 quad-core processor used in the DOOGEE X5 Max phone does not boast of extreme power. This is clearly visible in the tests. But in everyday use, slowdowns are noticeable only in toys (although playing Asphalt 8 with light slow mo is a pleasure - you navigate all turns perfectly). A gigabyte of RAM is more than enough for everyday activities. On average system, clients social networks and Skype eat up about 79% of RAM. So there remains a constant supply of 200 megabytes of RAM.

What is the operating system version of DOOGEE X5 Max?

This model is new enough that we immediately get Android M. The basic interface is slightly modified - the list of programs is not displayed on several screens, but with a scrolling ribbon. Otherwise, we have ordinary Android.

Although if you delve deeper into the settings, it becomes clear that quite a lot of nice features have been added to the operating system itself. So the options included a QR code scanner (which is usually installed as a separate program), a tool for setting up a fingerprint scanner, a turbo download mode, smart gestures and smart unlocking.

What do these options give us? A QR code scanner is not required in a special presentation. Therefore, let's move on to setting up the biometric scanner. To use it, you must first set up unlocking using a PIN code or graphic password. The process of registering a fingerprint is relatively long - you need to swipe your finger over the scanner many times so that the program can obtain the most complete information. In the future, this allows her to “recognize” your papillary pattern at any inclination and direction of finger movement. In addition to unlocking a smartphone, a fingerprint can also serve as a key to access programs or websites. In this case, you also need to set an additional PIN code for “emergency” access without fingerprints. The scanner can also be used to control some programs (simple one-button actions, such as switching tracks, or like a camera shutter button).

Turbo downloading is an interesting function, but in our realities it is not yet relevant. Its essence is that when downloading files from the Internet, both the mobile Internet and Wi-Fi are used simultaneously, summing up the bandwidth of both channels. But this only makes sense on 4G networks. The increase in speed from connecting to a 3G channel is not worth the money spent on mobile traffic.

Smart gestures are close in practicality to using a fingerprint scanner to control programs. With this option, the same swipes and scrolls are available, only not by touching the scanner, but by waving your palm in front of the front camera and proximity sensor.

But smart unlocking is a really interesting feature. Usually, to call a program or perform an action, you need to “wake up” the screen and only then launch the desired program. And with “smart unlocking” the application is launched directly from the inactive screen. It is enough to draw the desired symbol on the switched off display and we immediately find ourselves in the program we need. Unfortunately, there is no way to independently set a pair from the application and the activation sign - their set is preset and cannot be changed or expanded. The list includes basic system programs: camera, web browser, file manager, music player and phone. In addition, “smart unlocking” allows you to control music playback, as well as “wake up” the phone by double tapping the screen.

Are there many pre-installed programs?

I'm glad that DOOGEE did not overload the smartphone with unnecessary software. In the basic package only Google services and a couple of their programs. Moreover, their selection was so severe that there was no place even for a weather widget. Of course, this is not a problem on a smartphone, because you can always install the program of your favorite weather service.

What programs, according to DOOGEE, turned out to be so useful that they were able to get into the firmware? In addition to a keyboard with support for Burmese and other Asian languages, we get office suite Documents To Go, a program for separating work and home accounts Parallel Space and a proprietary file sharing utility DG Xender.

Actually, the last two programs are of greatest interest. Parallel Space allows you to keep multiple accounts in the same program on your smartphone. Just launch this application and add what you need: work email, social networks with a group administrator account, or even install some Tinder or Lovetime in a special “hidden” mode (the program will not appear in the list of applications outside of Parallel Space). Access to additional accounts can be password protected to protect data in case of loss of a smartphone or annoying interest from your significant other. For ease of use and management, there is a built-in task manager and a utility for tracking the volume occupied by additional accounts. IN general program interesting and useful not only for separating work and personal life.

DG Xender is a complete software combine. Typically, manufacturers divide the functions implemented in it between several applications, but DOOGEE decided not to multiply the icons. This program combines direct export/import of smartphone settings and a file transfer service between this phone and other smartphones and computers under one roof. I wonder what is supported as working through existing Wi-Fi network, and hotspot. You can only transfer photo and video files to your computer. But during operations with another Android smartphone you can transfer programs and documents and entire folders - the main thing is to also install DG Xender on it (it is available on Google Play).

How does the DOOGEE X5 Max shoot?

Surprisingly, the DOOGEE X5 Max phone claims to be a faithful friend who does not like to take pictures. In this model, the main and front cameras are equipped with 5 MP sensors with support for interpolation up to 8 MP. Of course it would be better to have the full 8 megapixels without software processing, but budget dictates its limitations.

The camera has quite a lot of settings - color effects, manual exposure adjustment, and selection of ISO, contrast, brightness and other basic parameters. You can also activate burst shooting, time-lapse video, self-timer, voice memo recording, smile snapshot, and face detection in the frame. But all this is hidden in the depths of the settings. In quick access you can only select a mode (normal, beauty and panoramic shooting), activate the HDR mode, take a photo by gesture, control the flash and switch between the front and main cameras. If they made a convenient interface for all the camera’s capabilities, then it would not have a price. And so - there is good potential that needs to be presented correctly.

The quality of photos and videos is simply excellent for a device in this price category. The camera performs well in both bright sunlight and artificial lighting. Where it has a difficult time is at dusk - here the automation can give noticeable failures.

How is he at work?

In terms of telephone performance, DOOGEE X5 Max is doing well. The speaker is loud and clear, the microphone does not distort the voice and intonation. The ringing can be heard even in the subway (this is if you set a normal melody instead of the default one). The vibration alert is noticeable, although it is partially neutralized by the internal metal frame.

Interestingly, the dialer interface tries to adapt to the phone owner. You can fill in your favorite contacts yourself, or you can leave them to chance - gradually they will be filled with those subscribers with whom you communicate most often. The call list not only shows the time of the last connection with the subscriber, but also informs with icons about the number and direction of calls. A pleasant concern for those who prefer to use their smartphone for calls rather than launching mobile applications.

In terms of operating time, the results are very good. With normal use of the smartphone (20 minutes of calls, about an hour of social networks, ten minutes of navigation, half an hour of games, constantly active mobile Internet and Wi-Fi), its battery lasts for two days. He will be asked to charge late in the evening of the second day.

What features does DOOGEE X5 Max have?

The DOOGEE X5 Max smartphone is not without some nuances. There are surprisingly few of them, but they exist. So the camera application always starts in beauty mode. For selfies, this is a definite plus. But if you want to photograph not a person’s face, but some kind of document, building or landscape, then a filter that blurs out skin imperfections will only get in the way.

The second feature is related to the smart unlock function. In the same LG G2, a similar functionality works only if the proximity sensor is not covered by anything (that is, at least it is not in your pocket). And with DOOGEE X5 Max you can easily surf the Internet, take a couple of dozen photos, or even call your ex - all without taking it out of your pocket. So to speak, in hands-free mode. You can combat this problem with the help of a bookcase or by placing your smartphone in your pocket with the screen facing away from you.

Bottom line

To be honest, when I started reviewing this phone, I was extremely skeptical. But considering the price DOOGEE X5 Max in Ukraine and the implemented functionality - this is a surprisingly interesting and profitable purchase. Moreover, they bribe not only and not so much specifications, but the fact that the manufacturer did not cut down the smartphone at the software level (something more famous manufacturers do not disdain). So if you need to get the most features for your 2000 hryvnia, you should pay attention to the DOOGEE X5 Max phone.

The device is made without any design excesses, featuring a laconic design. The smartphone is a simple candy bar rectangular shape with chopped edges. The front panel of the device is made of tempered glass, and the back side is made of smooth polycarbonate with a non-slip surface. At the front, proximity and light level sensors are installed on the front panel in front of the display. The panel is equipped with an additional camera and an auditory speaker. Directly below the screen there are touch buttons, typical for devices on the Android OS, but they are not backlit.

At the bottom end of the device there is a microphone and an audio speaker, providing loud noise. The top end of the Doogee X5 is equipped with two connectors: for connecting a wired stereo headset and a MicroUSB connector. On the right side of the smartphone there is a power connector and a volume key.

The back of the device is made of matte plastic, which quickly collects fingerprints on its surface. However, in the white version of the gadget they are less noticeable. The back cover is slightly larger than the front cover and covers the sides of the smartphone, so it seems that the screen protrudes above the body. But if damaged, it is easy to replace and get a new gadget. To remove the cover, you need to apply moderate effort, since the manufacturer does not provide a groove for this action.

The device is available in white and black colors. In white it looks quite elegant. This option is chosen by women, and the black Doogee X5 is preferred by the stronger half of humanity. The smartphone is comfortable to hold in your hand, although you get the feeling that it is a little thick.

Smartphone display

The use of IPS technology in the manufacture of a smartphone can significantly reduce the strain on the user’s eyes and provide a natural color palette. The device display has good viewing angles. It is readable even at a large angle, which will certainly surprise the owners budget phones. The resolution of the device matrix is 1280x720 pixels, which provides a bright and rich color palette and clarity of the picture. The brightness of colors in the device is adjusted automatically. When the device is tilted, the colors remain saturated and do not fade, and the image is not distorted. Touch screen features a quick response to touches and presses. The brightness level of the display is independently adjusted by the light sensor built into it.

Doogee X5 hardware

The smartphone has an MTK6580 processor. It completely copies MTK658, but its production is much cheaper. The device of this model does not support new generation networks. This option is provided in the Doogee X5 Pro version, which supports OTG and work in 4G networks. Doogee X5 Pro is more productive, and the amount of RAM in it has been increased to 2 GB. The amount of internal memory has also been doubled to 16 GB.

Smartphone camera

The device has two cameras: the main one and the front one with 5 and 2 megapixels, respectively. The main camera takes pictures in daylight good quality with clearly defined details. Focusing in the camera is automatic. The camera features of the device include “panorama”, “photo” and “beautiful face” modes. When you select the last option, you get a picture with an even complexion, free of imperfections. The “gesture snapshot” function is activated when the user shows a certain gesture to the phone. Of course, the lifespan of a smartphone depends on the intensity of its use. When playing video, the gadget can work continuously for 6.5 hours.

Doogee X5 network communication support

The device operates on traditional frequencies and is supported by domestic operators. To access the two SIM cards that the device is equipped with, you will have to remove the batteries. The operation of network communications: wireless Internet, radio module and others is stable and does not cause any complaints. GPS navigation also works well, quickly searching for satellites. Doogee X5 does not support GLONASS.

The manufacturer installed OS Android 5.1 in the phone. When connected to wireless internet the system updates correctly, notifying its owner that updates have been downloaded. The device does not have any unique functions, but its user can choose a guest mode, which allows him to hide his contact list, photos and other personal data from strangers. In addition, the device provides quick access to various functions. The letter W drawn on a locked display will immediately open a window with SMS messages.
