It has always aroused interest among users accustomed to Chinese smartphones. After all, at one time these devices offered flagship characteristics. And even despite some stagnation in the current line, the devices were popular, and now the company has decided to surprise fans of the series with a new Meizu Pro 7 . And she succeeded, because the smartphone has a highlight.

Design and technical features

Let's start with the technical specifications:

  • Chipset – Helio P25 produced by Mediatek;
  • 4GB RAM;
  • Two-module camera;
  • Battery with 3000mAh standard for many devices.

There is still no slot for microSD; the user is asked to be content with 64 or 128GB of ROM. As you can see, the technical component is not of particular interest; the only thing worth noting is the AMOLED technology of the 5.2 display with a full-screen display.

The design is also typical for the line. Metal body, an oval home button with a finger scanner, iPhone-like antenna layout, metallic polishing - there’s nothing to surprise here either. But the auxiliary display on the back under the lens of the dual-module camera is eye-catching. A controversial feature: although it allows you to see notifications, select wallpapers and even take selfies, it cannot boast of a convenient location, because users are more familiar with the main display. But at the same time it gives originality.

Performance

Of course, despite the design innovation, users could not help but criticize the mediatek platform, which the brand very willingly uses in most solutions in recent years. It is worth saying that the criticism in this case did not go unnoticed by the manufacturer, and as always happens in similar cases, the answer was evasive. Thus, Vice President Jeffrey Young compared the smartphone to high-speed cars, where a speed of 200 km/h is not always in demand. But the limitation of the mediatek platform is in no way justified by the still high prices for products, including Meizu pro 7. It is not difficult to guess that the answer only led to the emergence of a new round of criticism.

Results

It should be noted that we are faced with one of the most interesting decisions of recent months. And although Meizu Pro 7 has a fairly simple chipset by flagship standards, the device will cope with all user tasks with a bang, especially since not everyone needs games. Much more important is the design and feature in the form of an additional display. In addition, there is a choice: a more productive brother Meizu Pro 7 Plus or a simple basic modification, which some will find interesting only thanks to the standard 5.2-diagonal instead of the enlarged 5.7” of the plus version.

Meizu has traditionally been one of those Chinese manufacturers phones that you've probably heard of but haven't really thought about. It's not that their devices were in any way bad - they were simply forgotten, reports .

But that's a thing of the past now: the company has officially unveiled its latest flagship duo. While we've seen several different implementations of the "second screen on a smartphone" idea (series Samsung Galaxy Folder, LG V20 or YotaPhone 2), nothing has been similar to Pro 7 so far.

Design and screens of Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus

But first, let's get one thing straight: while the two Pro 7 models share many features, including a unique design, they are a little different on the inside: in fact, the smaller Pro 7 is a mid-range smartphone in terms of internal specs. This is not new for the company, as the same difference can be found in last year's Pro 6 and Pro 6 Plus.

First of all, let's focus on the standout feature: the second display on the back of the device. This is an AMOLED panel with touch control, which has many different uses: you can view and manage your notifications, control your music, or of course, use it as a screen to take selfies with the rear camera. Meizu will also provide a "wide range of customizable wallpapers", although we imagine most of them will be inappropriate for saving battery power.

As for the rear camera, for the first time Meizu has added a dual-sensor module, according to the hottest trend of 2017. The configuration will include monochrome and color sensors, both with a resolution of 12 megapixels. Interestingly, this is the same camera configuration (down to the sensor model) as the Moto Z2 Force Edition.

The front camera is nothing to complain about: Meizu has launched an impressive 16-megapixel sensor that also uses a so-called four-in-one algorithm to make low-light selfies look better. And below that camera, you'll find the respective displays of the two devices: Samsung's Super AMOLED panels, a 5.2-inch Full HD for the Pro 7 and a 5.7-inch Quad HD for the Pro 7 Plus.

Characteristics of Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus

As mentioned, the biggest differences between these two devices are below the surface. The larger Pro 7 Plus marks the debut of MediaTek's latest flagship chipset, the Helio X30, coupled with 6GB of RAM, which sounds good on paper but needs to be put to the test before we can draw any conclusions. The phone will come with 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Meanwhile, the smaller Pro 7 has some mid-range phone specs thanks to the MediaTek Helio P25 chipset, albeit paired with 4GB of RAM. But this is only the base version: a second, high-end variant is offered, with the same Helio X30 chipset, as well as 128 GB of internal storage (the regular version contains 64 GB of memory).

MediaTek processors typically don't boast superior power efficiency, so the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus have a maximum battery capacity of 3,000 mAh and 3,500 mAh, which is neither good nor bad. However, both phones are equipped with technology fast charging mCharge 4.0 from Meizu, which promises super-fast recharge speeds and reduced overheating.

Finally, a couple of additional notes: this chinese phone, we cannot do without a highly customized user Android interface, so the Meizu Pro 7 duo is powered by its own Flyme 6. And an interesting feature that the company is very proud of is a special Hi-Fi chip designed to provide high-quality audio. And yes, that means the Pro 7 duo offers a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Price and release date of Meizu Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus

Both devices will be available from August 5th. The smaller Pro 7 starts at the equivalent of $430, while its larger sibling will cost around $530. This looks like a reasonable price, but there is one major caveat: Meizu is a company with little profile outside its homeland. This means that unless you're in one of the 17 officially supported countries, you'll have to compete to own one of the most unique smartphones of 2017.

Type

Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to choose a telephone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone.
